Preclinical studies performed in small and large animals have demonstrated that Cartimove© successfully produced the first documented case of true implanted hyaline cartilage tissue, integrating with surrounding cartilage and demonstrating co-existence of donor and host cells in the same tissue.

In a study comparing the cartilage culture pattern of Cartimove vs. Articular cartilage-derived cells (serves as the ACI cell source), Cartimove showed an increase in type II collagen production, compared to a decrease in ACI cells. Type II collagen is the basis for articular cartilage and makes up 85-90% of articular cartilage collagen. The results indicate that while  ACI cell-source lose their genuine nature upon culturing (a well known fact), Cartimove can generate true hyaline cartilage.
